A Job Seeker's Bible
If you're looking for a job, you need to get this book. It is filled with so much helpful information! The tips on resume building alone, are worth it! If you're sending out resume after resume and not getting responses, trust me...after you read this and apply the suggestions, your phone WILL start ringing! So many simple things to do; slight word variations that can make all the difference in whether or not you get that call for the interview. As someone who has been out of the job market for over 20 years, this book has been invaluable for me. I will read it again and again; I've got the kindle version and have bookmarks and highlights throughout. This is NOT your typical career coaching book. Instead, the author gives you all the great information via way of a fictional story...and the story was fascinating and kept my attention. Not only were the resume tips helpful, but these other topics were covered in great detail: unknown job search ideas and finding hidden jobs; how to network effectively; tips on how to handle interviews; how to negotiate for your highest salary; the importance of following up, etc., etc. Scripts, methods and a lot of tools were shared by the author to make your job search successful! Definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for a job.
10000% yes!
I know, I know- it seems like another self-help book for job-seekers. Stores always have entire bookcases of them, and yet not a single one can do more than offer inflated and often useless hope. A great emotion, but not one that will fill your refrigerator or surprise your family with a trip to the beach. This book is different. Instead of flowery language that makes you feel good, Zaouali teaches you how to change your mindset and your approach to job searching. He gives templates for resumes, cover letters, and more, as well as how to find the exact job you’re looking for even if it’s not on one of the major search sites. With the plan Zaouali lays out, anyone can use the information to find a better job, no matter how tough the job market seems. If you’re like me and were laid off thanks to Covid, please, please, get this book. It will help you get through the application, interview, and salary negotiation processes in the most efficient way possible. The only way is up!
Good Job Seeking Advice in Story Form
Books for job seekers often get repetitive after awhile, especially if you spent a long time job searching. Many say the same things: have someone look over your resume. Make sure it has action verbs and is free of errors before you send it. Make sure you show up early for your interview and are dressed nicely. Don't forget to send a thank you note and then follow up on your interview. Then there is the advice that is contradictory. Have an objective or a summary. No don't have one, the hiring manager looks over it. Make your resume one page, so it's easy to skim. No, make it two so you can emphasize your skills. Apply only to certain jobs because the job market is tough. No, the sky's the limit, apply anywhere! Have a cover letter to look professional. No, no one has time to read it. It can be incredibly headache inducing and discouraging when you follow the advice and don't see results right away. You follow the books and steps almost religiously. So, where is your job? Are you following the wrong advice and reading the wrong books? It is a stressful time made worse by the constant barrage of well meaning, but at times difficult advice. Sometimes, it helps if the job searching book is written in a fresh unique way. That's where Hamza Zaouali's The Job Seeker and The Coach comes in. Instead of just a typical how to book with bullet points, resume samples, and do's and don't's with faceless job seekers, Zaouali writes his book as a session between one job seeker and her coach. He gives his advice in story form. This approach gives the book more immediacy and makes the advice more personal than the sometimes objective condescending manner that other authors sometimes give to Readers. The eponymous job seeker (the Everyseeker, if you will) is named Lisa, a woman who has been terminated from her sales position in Dubai. After a discouraging time with vague interviews and recruiters, she is recommended to try the Three Circles Coach (assumed to be Zaouali himself). The first thing The Coach does is probably one of the hardest things that a job seeker hears, but is necessary. Lisa, like many job seekers, is concerned about exterior issues. The job market is slow. She is the wrong gender or the wrong skin color. She is in the wrong place. There aren't any open positions with her experience and skills and she can't move. All of the things that job seekers tell themselves, fearing the stacked deck against them and longing to just give up. The Coach shoots each rationale down with "Other people have jobs, why not you?" While The Coach acknowledges these outside problems, he refuses to let Lisa acquiesce to them and use them as excuses to give up. He encourages her to be more active and continue to search. While she can't necessarily do anything about those external forces, she can change herself and her internal forces. Lisa, and in turn Job Seekers reading about her, can improve their own confidence by strengthening their chances despite the negative outlook by turning into effective job seekers. The Three Circles that the coach suggests are the three steps every job seeker goes through. Marketing (How the Job Seeker searches for work and writes their resume), Sales (How the Job Seeker presents themselves in interviews and advertises their skills and experience), and Service to Others (How the Job Seeker uses the job search to help Employers, and in turn themselves, achieve results). Zaouali's writing treats the job search like a business in which the Seeker advertises themselves for the employer who is thought of as a client. Job Seekers can develop their brand and marketing skills to increase their opportunities and impact in a future business. When a Job Seeker shows an uncanny business savviness in advertising themselves, they already tell the employer that they have excellent marketing, sales, and customer service skills. In her search, Lisa goes through the usual steps of resume sending, interviewing, following up, and waiting all with The Coach giving the various steps on what to do next. Zaouali updates most of the advice to a current 2020 audience that is aware of a changing job market and that they need to change with it to be more accessible. Some advice seems different from what many seekers are used to. For example, instead of Job Seekers putting their full address, Zaouali advises Lisa and the Readers to put a target location where they would like to live and work, so they appear available to relocate if need be. (The point of the resume is to get the interview. Don't let unwillingness to travel be a barrier between the seeker and their dream job, Zaouali says.) The Job Seeker is also encouraged to showcase skills with a table to emphasize their abilities and expertise. Important skills such as team management, administrative work, and computer languages can be placed into such a table to let the employer know exactly what they are looking for. It also illustrates the skills of which the Seeker writes. Networking is also highlighted in this book, particularly for the hidden job market. Social Media and the Internet can be useful fountains of information to find available jobs before they are advertised to the general public. Groups, Facebook Friends, and LinkedIn Contacts are very helpful in locating openings. While the book doesn't mention how the market in 2020 has changed for obvious pandemic-sized reasons, it does mention how networking can be used to assist for those issues. The book allows the Reader to embrace the possibility of remote employment as well as researching companies that are good fits for the potential employee. (Nowadays, it is particularly important to research how well the company values the health and safety of its employees and customers.) The Coach also says that any type of work can be used as gainful experience. Writing blog articles or reviewing products for example show a strong writing ability as well as a desire to remain involved in one's chosen field despite unemployment or under employment. Anything can be used for a good experience whether by staying active in the field or using soft skills (skills that are needed anywhere like customer service, technical proficiency etc.). Through Lisa's experiences, the Reader vicariously witnesses her mistakes. Then they remember their own and seek to improve them. When Lisa bombs her first interview by giving vague examples and not asking follow up questions, the Reader cringes in embarrassment and sympathy. Then they remember how often they do that and vow like Lisa to do better next time. When Lisa doesn't take an interview seriously because it's not a field in which she is interested, the Coach and the Reader remind her that every interview is a learning experience and that she, and we, should be our professional best every time. Lisa makes the same errors and has the same victories that her Readers do. When she markets and sells herself and performs expertly at the interview, it is a victory for her and us when she receives the job.The Job Seeker sees themselves in her and uses her story as a template to their own. Her story reminds her and us that if she can do it, we can do it. The job search is a long struggle. It's never fun and always stressful. Sometimes it feels like a thousand eyes are staring at you, watching how you dress, speak, and even what you put on the Internet. It feels like one long dog and pony show that can drag on for weeks, months, even years. But when we find that great job, market ourselves to the best of our ability, and exhibit a willingness to serve the employer's needs and contribute to their mission. When we get that great career, then books like The Job Seeker and The Coach are guideposts that show us that the long search is worth it.
Most Comprehensive Job Search Book
This is bar none the best job search book I've ever read. It contains tips, tricks, scripts, and formulas that I wish I'd known at the beginning of my professional life. Used properly, this book will overcome the most common and severe job search obstacles, including periods of prolonged unemployment and gender socialization differences that may otherwise affect salary negotiation tactics. I've already bought two copies for friends of mine who are new to the job market or who are looking to get back into it after some time away.
Fascinating reference for those out on the job market...
The Job Seeker & The Coach, is a self-help guide presented in the creative format of fiction. Inspired by true events, the reader follows the main character, Lisa, with her struggle of trying to obtain employment within a very short time period in Dubai or become homeless. She finds herself taking lessons from a job coach and learning more about herself in the process. Lisa's journey is captivating and engaging throughout the text. I found myself wondering what would happen next each time I had to pause my reading. This book is full of distinctive, detailed examples with step-by-step instructions and visuals that connect the reader to a deeper level of awareness. The insights provided in this book are ones that I have never heard of and make it stand out from any other book on the market. This is a must read!
This is a great career assistant and a Great book
This was both a great material for the main person (Lisa) AND for us as well while we search for the 'right' job for ourselves in the process of finding it. The first chapter begins in everyone's worst feeling: "Being fired or released from their job"... as in Lisa's case. However, her manager assisted her with a helpful tip: "To contact a job coach that can help her further her career. I felt just like Lisa here. A job coach can cost both money and will it be worth the time? In the second chapter, Lisa does something so relatable to our own lives when searching for a job: Placing in many job applications to different jobs where, in the end, there's rarely a response or reply back. She received an interesting e-mail from a coach that brings up "The Three Circles". The what? Yeah I was just confused as Lisa was too here. As for the third chapter, well... there are times when it is called for us to take a step and see what will happen next. No action can be taken or done without us taking the first step that can make a change in your life. What I enjoyed about this book were the many tips that I also needed in my life as well, the same notes Lisa has taken from her coach. What I did not like was the million questions Lisa asked her coach. I mean, no offense, I would've asked a few of her questions, but the questions drove me off a bit, despite the fact that both her and her coach's conversation grew deeper and deeper. Sorry. I don't want to spoil anything within this book for anyone, but it is a great read!
So Helpful and Practical
All I can say is "WOW!" This book is incredibly helpful and very practical. I am a Life Coach who works primarily with young adults as they navigate high school, college, and the beginning of their career. This will be a book and resource I will DEFINITELY use and encourage my clients to get. Whether you are just beginning your career, thinking about a job change or help people in the career world--get a copy of this book!
Good for job seekers recently entering the job market
This book provides pragmatic advice for job seekers. It is extremely valuable to people recently entering the job market. However, it would help if the book was tailored to the job market in different sectors and job types. For example, a book that provides coaching to programmers that want to get an entry level job in the tech industry in the United States would be much more effective.
Very helpful resume tips
No one in school or university ever teaches you how to write a proper resume, so I've always had to rely on asking Google and hoping I find good results. Considering that, this was a real eye-opener for me. I reworked my resume basically immediately.
A MUST READ FOR JOB SEEKERS!
This book will make you realize that you have been wasting your time applying to jobs using the old and outdated techniques. A must read for anyone looking to secure a desired job quickly and efficiently. It is an in depth, world class, step-by-step guide to not only find an amazing job, but to set yourself apart from the rest. Brilliant!

Great book! Excellent approach and frameworks
The author does a great job using a novel to explain the concepts and it does emphasize the professional and personal development needed to find that next opportunity- one of the best books on the subject.
Makes you realize you were doing it wrong the whole time!
Wow, I just finished reading this book. For a book about resumes and interviewing for jobs, I found it extremely engaging. The presentation in a story narrative kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to read on and learn more about how the main character’s job search would end up. I’ve been a job seeker for a majority of my adult life and there were tips and tools in this book that I never even heard of or thought to do! The resume advice is well worth the weight of this book on gold. I pretty much screen shot the resume template and plan to use it on my own resume. I wonder how I even got job interviews in the past with my old resume! I probably Could have gotten many more job interviews with better roles if I had read this book several years ago. I’ve recommended this book to my family and friends to help them with their resumes. The part on mindset was very insightful as well. I could relate with the main character as I’ve been in those situations before.
Metamorphic
Within these pages are tools to accelerate and start your desired career. I’ve heard this tag line from several books or videos, with little to no success. Until I read of Lisa’s experience, I shared many of her frustrations and fear. It wasn’t until she reached out to the coach that things started changing in my own job searching. I received a well deserved confidence boost in my new resume. But it didn’t start until I started teaching what I learned to my friends and family. This story presented in its unique format kept me engaged until the last page. And I feel this novel is suited for anyone who is job searching no matter their circumstances. I strongly recommend this book for those who feel disheartened about their job search. I don’t think it fully applies to those who are miserable in their current job as much. However, there is some great advise to those readers too.
Job-Hunting Guide Told As A Story
The Job Seeker And The Coach is a non-fiction guide to improving the job search, but told as a story. When Lisa loses her job, she has only 4 weeks left on her visa, so she needs to find a job quickly. Her friend connects her to a coach, who guides Lisa — and the reader — through the best practices of a job search. The coach leads Lisa to improve her resume, build her network, find key decision-makers, improve her interview performance, and more. The most useful takeaway for me when the coach reminded Lisa that she was the CEO of herself, and she was also interviewing potential employers. When looking for a job, it’s hard to remember that you’re not just trying to sell yourself, you’re also letting the potential employer sell you on their company. For me, we’re like a family here is a red flag that screams there’s no work/life balance, and it’s good to pay attention to negative signs early on. It’s always worth a reminder that you don’t have to take a job just because it’s available. Also, the coach reminds Lisa that desperation is a turnoff, and we can all spot when someone seems too needy. The book is about someone with a tight deadline to find work, but the coach still leads Lisa, and the readers, to think about what makes a good career. I don’t just mean the basics, but to really consider what makes a perfectly fine job into a long-term career with growth potential. Once the coach helps Lisa land interviews and get offers, how can she choose the right career out of all her options? Which will bring her the most personal satisfaction and growth? Considering this is also really helpful for job-seekers. Overall, this is a useful guide to job-hunting, and framing the tips with Lisa’s story helps personalize this non-fiction guide.
A gold mine for serious job seekers
I just finished this book and it's a gold mine! I knew Hamza Zaouali for his videos and tips on Youtube, already very effective, but here, we change dimension! This book is a summary of Best Practices in job search, wrapped in a comprehensive structured, clear and accessible method. History is at the service of tools, rhythm and mindset. Throughout history, it is as if you were coached yourself, and each step of the job search process is deepened both in terms of context, mindset, explanation, personalization and implementation of the tools. I am personally at the stage of my first interviews, and I now have all the weapons and the energy to approach them serenely. I devoured this book in just one week (in parallel with my preparation for interviews), understood my mistakes, identified the elements to improve but especially why and how to do it. I therefore recommend this book to any job seeker regardless of the research or mindset phase in which they are into. But I also recommend it to all those who wish to steer their professional career since this book not only gives us the keys to find a job, but also how to generate choice for your career. This method is universal (no limit of language, culture, country), our own fears are the only obstacles to our success! The author offers us his secrets with a great generosity, do not hesitate to take this opportunity! Note: Although there really is easy reading for those who do not feel comfortable in English, I recommend the Kindle version that allows a tactile touch to get immediate qualitative translation (I’m French and I could handle it very easily)
Good well-written book
If you're in the job-seeking market or simply looking for a quick read, this is the book for you. It's a combination of fact and fiction. The author gives sound advice to those looking for a job, but tells it in a story-like way. It is not a typical boring "How To" book. The book tells the story of Lisa, a young American woman who landed a sales job in Dubai. After three years of working, she was let go for poor performance. This is when her former employer gives her a number and tells her to contact a job seeking coach. Her friend encourages her to do as he instructed and so she contacts the coach. The coach makes Lisa realize that, in order to land a job, she has to change her mindset first. Throughout the book, the coach advises Lisa and steers her in the right direction giving her tips and tricks. There are certain ah ha moments in this book that would cause any job-seeker to understand what they were doing wrong and what they can do to fix it. Another thing that makes this book worth the read is that there is an example of a resume and what to include in it, an example of a cover letter, thank you letter for after conducting an interview, and other templates that job seekers can use and follow to help them land as many interviews as it takes. In short, this was an excellent read for both the factual informative advice and for the fictional story-line and structure.
If you're a job seeker, you've got to read this book.
I just finished reading this book. It definitely wasn't what I was expecting. It's written like fiction, yet gives so much immediately valuable information to anyone looking for a job. I felt like it was written for me specifically, because I had the same problems and questions that the book character had. For months I've been feeling inadequate and wondering why I wasn't getting calls for interviews and this book shed light on so many things I should be doing that I'm not. I even had my resume reviewed by a career counselor that didn't give me the type of tips and strategies this book gives.....such as viewing myself as the CEO of my business (myself) and selling myself. I recommend this book for everyone...even if you currently have a job, the information in this book is bound to be useful. Better to have an updated resume using these tips than to wait until you're out of a job.
An excellent approach
Going into this book I thought it would be similar to most other books that attempt to shape your way of thinking. Reading a coaching session and maybe getting away with some new knowledge. This book instead was a very pleasant surprise. This book is by no means directly looking at the reader instead it takes a much different approach. You meet a woman who has literally been fired and may lose her visa if she doesn’t get another job. To top that off she knew she had been doing poorly at work and had already started looking for a new job. That’s about 200 applications and only 2 interviews. We are taken on her journeys as she has her mind open to job couching that changes everything. Not only does she get a new approach on what a job is but, how she should go about getting one. As you read through it’s made very clear the steps that you can also take to find your way in the job market as well. It’s a way of really changing perspective that makes consuming everything being talked about so much better. I would highly recommend this book to anyone on the job market today.
Great story- makes each concept memorable
I loved this book. I’m typically a non-fiction, how-to lover, so a fictional story was a stretch for me. I enjoyed how it was structured. I also appreciated that the numbers were in a currency I wasn’t familiar with so I didn’t get hung up on the actual amounts, but could focus on the concepts instead. I was able to apply the tips on salary negotiation, during the first salary negotiation in my life and make more than I was expecting in this COVID-19 economy. Love the book. You will too.
An Unknown Classic for Job Seekers!
Thank you, Hamza, for enlightening us with your Free course on Udemy, wisdom, and materials. This book has helped me easily develop compassion toward my employer and gratitude for the opportunities, salary, and benefits they have provided. It's brought me a sense of compassion for the time potential employers spend reading my resume and considering me for a position that could become a disaster. In other words, I've found a depth of empathy with a creator mindset. My job search is no longer about me. It's about creating a better world.
Excellent Book for Job Seekers
This book is excellent for job seekers looking to learn how to find their next opportunity. It is a guide on to how to implement amazing techniques to find hidden jobs and learn how to tackle interviews. The author’s story about Lisa serves to uplift job seekers and provides valuable advice on how to succeed in their competitive job search. I highly recommend this book, even if you are not looking for a job right now, because the knowledge will be very useful for future job interviews. The steps of the job search described through Lisa’s story is relatable and very motivational for job seekers looking for their next position or thinking about changing their job in the future. Thank you Hamza for distilling your knowledge about the job search process to help job seekers navigate the job market.
Narrative form provides a fun, easy, exciting way to learn the proven methods.
Overall, the story flowed easily while transferring plenty of useful, novel ideas about jobs, job searches, interviews, salary negotiations, positive mindsets, and up to date information about the automation of the recruitment process. There were a few places where the technical information about resumes and email address searches seemed to be necessary but didn't exactly follow the flow of the story. I read the book in a few sittings and could feel my attitude about resumes and job searching changing within me. I can see why the author calls himself, rightfully, a coach. My understanding of the process was immediately enhanced. I also became quickly aware that my energy level is way too low to be successful. The coach has definitely raised the bar! Thank Coach!
Strong concepts from the beginning
Not only is this a great read for a job seeker but the author makes some very valid points that transfer well into relationships and other life situations. Also having participated in a fair amount of training on job seeking and interviewing, enjoyed the narrative aspect following the lead character. Sometimes it felt the lead character was a lot and whiny but it added to the story.
All job seekers need to read this book!
“You’re amazing beyond your limitations. Don’t let fear dictate your future. This is your story; you’re the writer, no one else.” I can’t rave enough about this book. As a current job seeker, I found it to be incredibly motivational and only wish I read it sooner. It provides an invaluable step- by-step formula that guarantees results if followed properly. I have been seeking a new opportunity for quite some time and I can’t wait to implement the new strategies that I learned from this book. Special thanks to the author for sharing his knowledge and expertise in this process!
A very entertaining and informative read!
A lot of great content wrapped in the cloak of a personal story. The method in which the author took what could have been just another boring book on how to get from A-Z, brought zest & made this a fun read. Highly recommend for great tips and tools delivered in an entertaining way!
Great Book Even If You're Not Actively Looking for a New Job
I'm not currently looking for full-time work, but in this intractable world, you never know when some insider knowledge will come in handy. The perspicacity displayed by the Three Circles Coach is helpful in many ways, including looking for elusive email addresses and making sure cold emails you send to strangers have a chance of actually being opened. A cadre of in-person coaches couldn't have provided more insight. I'd like to express my effusive thanks for this book, and I can't wait to try out some of the new tricks I've learned.
Don’t buy kindle version - missing pages!
I am reading the Kindle version and some of the pages are missing, eg, some “screenshots” of “the resume writing formula” (“screenshots” in boxes). “The 5 steps to begin writing your resume” is missing entirely. Also, he suggests putting technical coding languages into a table, but most Applicant Tracking Systems don’t any info in read tables.
Amazing and life changing information
Wow! Where do I even start this book was informative and showcased information regarding resumes and job searching. This book offered amazing tips and gems that everyday people can utilize to help them score the dream career that they’ve desired. I am excited to be able to utilize these tips moving forward in my career journey.
Perfect for Anyone and Everyone!
This book has the full package, it ranges from writing your resume to the actual interview itself. Even if you aren't looking for a job, this book is a good read as you can learn more about personal growth and how to make more out of your strengths. It was a very beneficial read, as I am currently searching for a job and will be applying these tactics into my search too. Going to recommend to my friends and family!
Practical, Innovative, and Spot-On
This book couldn't have come into my life at a more opportune moment. I was recently laid off due to Covid19 cut-backs, and have been actively seeking a new opportunity. The tools and formulas that the author provides in this book are invaluable. I appreciate that the book was written in an easy to read format. The story allows one to become vested in the success of the heroine. The fact that the story line closely mirrors my own experience just made it that much more impactful. I've already secured quality interviews and I have yet to use the formula. Just the change in mindset is phenomenal. Thank you so much!
Great Resource for a Job Seeker!
What a relatable book! The book is written in a narrative way that mirrors the life of someone like me, who is in the process of a job search. I am currently in the same position as the main character in the beginning of the story. Reading this made me realize what I had been doing wrong in my job search, even though I thought I was already good to go. Obviously, getting only 1 interview out of the 10 jobs I have applied to means that I need to seek some help, which this book did for me. Hopefully I will also have a happy ending after reading this book.
Comprehensive Handbook for Job Seekers
The first three chapters were a delight to read. I was finished, when I felt like I was just getting started. The fact that I am seeking new employment due to Covid 19, may have helped me to be interested in the subject. However, the book reads like a story rather than a manual. So far the difficulties involved with the job search are handled very well, along with the feelings of the job seeker. I have Kindle, so I have purchased the book.
Clear and straight forward actions!
A practical book, giving me some great tips for moving forward in my job search, helping me see a different perspective on my employment situation, in a larger context.
Just read it without hesitation!
An excellent resource for job seekers. Since I red this book, and I start to applying it, i have passed 3 interviews in few days. Mr Hamza provides practical and useful reading, inspirations and insights to help anyone who is looking for a job or who wants to maintain or change it. The best professional book I have ever red ! Thank you! Rima
A must read if you're struggling to get a job!
The whole book is beautifully written with a deep dive into someone's life story to encapsulate the message the author is trying to make. If we're having trouble finding a job or really anything in life we should look within and ask if other people can/are doing it why can't I?
Recommend to EVERY COLLEGE STUDENT
This is something that should be taught in school. There are so many people that don’t stand a fighting chance, because they don’t know how to write a resume. If there is one thing I will take from this forever, “ be progress-driven, not result driven”🙏🏽
Pragmatic and very Helpful
This book was very helpful for me in my job search. I highly recommend this book!
Unique read for job seekers (which we all are at some point)
"The idea of a job search is not to find a job, it's to generate choices." This is a definite must-read for anyone in the workforce who has ever - or will ever - be facing the job-seeking process. I have read other career and job search books, but this stands out because it's written as a novel so you get invested in the protagonist's job search journey. It doesn't seem as much of a chore to read even though you're still getting all of the job search techniques and takeaways. I really enjoyed the approach of looking at the job search as the job seeker being the CEO of their personal brand. I found some of the techniques, like resume updates, interviews, and salary negotiations to be very beneficial in my own search. Some of the information didn't seem as applicable to me since I'm not in sales and it's written from the perspective of an international job seeker on a work visa, and there were some points that weren't completely relevant to my specific circumstances. Overall a great and enjoyable read with many takeaways for both employers and employees.
want to improve your chances of getting that Job?...then this book is for you
To make it clear if was given this book to read free but this is an honest opinion. I was expecting this to be another dull hard to read, lectured, type book but in fact I found it totally the opposite, i really enjoyed it. it had a completely different layout to any other self help book i have read [and i have read a lot over the years] and it was very informative. It is based around young lady called Lisa trying to find a job, it takes you through all aspects of Lisa learning of the different techniques to reach her aim-this made it quite page turning in i couldn't wait to find out what job she landed or did she have to go back to New York? At times I even forgot i was reading a self help book....thus learning became fun. Although this book is based at Lisa applying for a higher end sales position a lot of the tips can be utilise for any job application, actually and not just in a job situation, many tips can be used in everyday life. there is a lot based on the "rules of attraction" which comes up a lot in self help books and really plays a part in life, I've certainly experienced that. The tips on job searching via google and unadvertised jobs was certainly enlightening, as well as tips on LinkedIn- if you use that then this book is a must for you to read. I liked how at the end of each chapter there were "written notes by Lisa" which condensed what she had learned, these notes make it easier to dip into and out of for future reference to remind you of any tips. It certainly showed huge gaps in my job searches that I have done over the years, I realise that I got my jobs by shear luck, if Lisa went about things the wrong way then I was most certainly not near the mark of being successful, and it has made me realise why.... 1. I never heard back from companies I've sent my CV/application to. 2. why i "failed" at the interview stage. 3. how lacking my job searching was. 4. how I didn't seem to learn from any of them experiences to improve. As for the salary hacks...OMG I've gone about this subject totally ALL wrong, handing over my current wage on a plate, the thought of its "none of their business" terrified me ...but the book explains things so well that you soon think...actually yes that makes sense, and this follows all the tips given...they all seem to make so much sense. Now down to the negative: the tables/charts/email copies were often hard or unable to read on my kindle [I have the oasis so the new one] i tried expanding them but still some not readable, I found this frustrating and whilst i know this is a kindle fault not an authors fault [kindle just doesn't display this info well] it does distract from the info so any re- writes taking this into account would be great, there were links to download these but again on kindle I couldn't seem to do that, or wanted to keep doing that. on the plus side there is a great index at the end making it easier once read the book to find these items quickly. if you want improve your jobs search/attainment or even better benefits then this book is a must. the tips given are not quick tips they rely on work but they do seem to make sense. so just try it what have you got to loose?
This book will change your life
I came across this book whilst looking for a job. There was an ad in a job search website, it was a proposal: read the three first chapters of this book, ask me for the rest and I’ll give you a work coach session for free in exchange of a review. I decided not to go for it. Instead I read the three first chapters and found them interesting and easy to read, so I decided to get the kindle version and read it with an independent mind. This book helped me to find my confidence again after losing it, together with my last job. I was terrified of not being able to find a new position! I learnt how to prepare my CV and present my profile on LinkedIn to maximise my visibility but also how to write a covering letter properly. These significantly increased the number of recruiters and companies that contacted me, and with it, the number of invitations for interviews. My confidence grew more and with each interview or chat with a recruiter I got better at selling myself and showing them how good I am at what I do. Now, I have to say that I found a new job. It took me three months, but I did it, and even I have to cancel a coming interview!!! I am really excited about this new opportunity, but I must say that after reading this book, I am not afraid of having to look for jobs again, I know how to do it and I know I’ll be successful. I am also trying to help others to find their next role by sharing what I have learnt. I want to thank Hamza Zaouali, thank you for writing the book, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
A Life-Changing Read ...
This book is incredible. It puts forward one of the most rational, practical, encouraging and optimistic ways to approach looking for and obtaining job offers that I have ever encountered. As a job seeker in these uncertain times, this book came to me at the right time and the right place - I am so very grateful. Written in an engaging and unexpected way (it works like a novel, rather than a CV textbook), the Three Circles Coach provides the sort of advice and help to "Lisa" for which you would normally have to pay in cold, hard cash. It's the author's generosity that has put it here on paper for everyone, and he deserves credit. Read this book - you will never regret it. I am now off to rewrite my CV, review the applications I've made so far and follow up and look at my network. ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!! Thank you, Mr Zaouali.
A wealth of knowledge hidden in this book
The book is a story about a young woman living in Dubai: Lisa (the protagonist) is looking for a job but slowly starts to sink into low spirits, which doesn’t do her any favours. She decides to seek help from a career coach, who motivates and inspires her to regain her confidence so she can tackle her search with ease and find her dream job. The dialogue with the coach is highly impressive and helpful as he brings up points you wouldn’t think of as a job-seeker: we need to think like a CEO because we serve others by selling our expertise, and our resume should reflect this. We should do our marketing when it comes to attracting career success and we need to think like a marketer; all tips and tricks are given. I liked the use of keywords given to add on resumes so we can be found by employers. The advice is comprehensive and can be easily actioned by any job-seeker. And you do have to action your entire job search, which is key in yielding the best results. Once learned, you can use it for life. The coach also has to remind Lisa not to fall into a victim mindset, which happens because she blames external influences to affect her search. It is counteracted by having a creator mindset, where she sees herself thriving in any job because she has all the tools within her. It may sound new-age but it’s all backed up by scenarios and action points given by her coach. Without giving too much away, I enjoyed going through the job seeker process with Lisa. I felt the characters in the book were very real, even in dialogue and character reactions, and because it is a story she has friends who have their own experiences of a job search. The book contains all aspects of a job search, including hidden methods of enhancing your search via LinkedIn and Google. There are a plethora of references which link to web pages so you can download various email templates, which I found very useful. If you are searching for a job, I highly recommend giving the methods and tactics in this book a go.
A different approach to job seeking
The job seeker and the coach: How to rescue and fast rack your job search, by Hama Zaouchi, is an extremely unique idea, one unlike any self-help/improvement book I have ever encountered. It serves as a manual for job seekers that are trying to find new employment using self-motivating techniques and ideas rather than the usual steps offered by job coaches. The difference here comes from how it is written. Rather than relaying facts in lists and justifications, they take form in a prosaic novella, the story of which focuses on the character of Lisa and the steps that she takes to find a new job after recently being fired. It is a strange approach, one that immediately garners the reader’s attention. But is it successful? The format of following Lisa through her story is, first and foremost, genius. It allows the author to sow empathy with the reader, therefore a job seeker is able to see themselves in the protagonist. You get a real sense of the desperation that she feels whilst experiencing unemployment and is extremely relevant, a side of the subject matter that is rarely focused upon. There were many moments in which I was able to relate far too much, a testament to Hamza’s story telling ability. The ongoing narrative is also a helpful tool that allows the reader to stay interested in the material. Bland statements or easy to retrieve steps are rife in the self-help genre and this format can get tedious. A story such as this can really carry a reader through, absorb them in such a way that the educational elements are discretely hidden. There are diagrams, of course, but they are inserted into moments where Lisa would encounter them. It transforms the book into a legitimate journey rather than the work of a non-fiction writer that will eventually run out of theories to indulge in. All in all, the optimal goal is for the reader to see Lisa eventually end up employed once again using the method specified by the author in the text. However, the prose angle is not all that it could be. Self-help books are non-fiction, highly focused and carefully formatted materials. They are designed in this way to adhere to how the human brain comprehends and processes new concepts or information. There is a sense that the author is aware of this as some of this information is inserted clumsily into the story. A very early example of this is when Lisa’s original boss decides to promote the ‘three circles of the job search formula’ promptly after firing her from his company. This is an odd moment of exposition, one that is repeated frequently throughout the book and pulls you out of the story in the same way that forcefully prepared expository dumps do in regular fiction. It makes the prose angle less seamless, breaks the illusion of difference to regular self-help materials. The main problem that this presents is that, whilst Lisa’s story is based on her journey, the reader is still following a character in a book. Her experiences, as familiar as they may be, are Lisa’s and exist within the story. To the human brain stories are mostly fictional. Even those based on true events are embellished to show certain aspects of characters or events in a certain light. Therefore, can we trust the protagonist? If her experiences aren’t valid then how can the theory be? The skills might not be considered transferable in a real life context, something that a self-help book needs to utilise above all else. What is really important here, though, is the theory presented. The books main focus is to help job seekers to find a job. The way in which it tries to achieve this is by explaining how you must change the way you think about employment. There are three main areas that it highlights; marketing, selling and serving, otherwise known as the three circles of the job search formula. In other words: You must market and sell yourself into the position that you want. It’s a great idea and is explained extremely well and provides answers to many of the obvious questions one might have about this process, from confidence issues to finding the right career for you. The authors accomplished career in employment and headhunting really validates her theories, gives her a credence and passionate viewpoint. You can really tell that she knows and strongly believes in her methodology. Alongside this there are the usual job seeking tips such as how to write a successful resume and how to craft your LinkedIn profile. These are all explained within the framework of the three circles of marketing, selling and serving and is detailed in expert fashion. With Lisa’s story serving as the perfect example of how to utilise these correctly, it is clear to see how this process would be successful. This highly unique endeavour may be clunky at times but there is no denying that this is a highly bold, creative and rewarding piece of work. Not only by formatting standards but in theory. I can see how this would reach a job seeker on an entirely new level and I would personally be happy if this the way the self-help genre begins to shift.
Fantastic, insightful book useful for anyone
The Job Seeker and The Coach is probably one of the best books I have read in a while. It gives an very thorough, insightful view into the job seeking process, and is full of techniques and strategies that can be applied to overall self-development. I have taken so many gold nuggets of wisdom from this book, really ingenious ways to find hidden vacancies and invaluable strategies to make yourself stand out from the crowd. I particularly enjoyed experiencing the job search from another job seeker's perspective, and the dynamics between the jobseeker and the career coach. I felt I was personally being guided by the career coach and I was challenged on my own perspectives and this book led to a phenomenal overall mindset shift. The chapters on LinkedIn and job seeking abroad were extremely useful. Hamza has written this book so that it is up-to-date with current job hunting practices. Well-written and useful for anyone in today's global economic climate.
A Great Way to Learn How to Improve Your CV, Job Hunting and Interview Techniques
From the moment I started reading about Lisa I wanted to know more. How did her job search go, how did she cope with the pressure of being on a short timescale, who was her coach who managed to change the way she had been job hunting? I am in the middle of job hunting and like Lisa have a short timescale, reading her story has made me more positive about finding my own new position. We are looking in different fields but the principles can be applied to all job searching and interviews. It is well worth reading for those who are job hunting or want to improve their CV and interview technique. I am going to recommend my own sons read it.
A must-read for any jobseeker out there!
I thoroughly enjoyed this new approach to other typical "How to" books. It is written in such a way that although you may not be in the same career as Lisa, the person the book is based on, you can still relate to everything she goes through and achieves. I love the clear and concise way the processes are laid out for you, and all the templates and links included are extremely helpful. As it is told as a story, I found myself extremely engaged and I couldn't put the book down! I genuinely wanted to know how things ended for Lisa and it has actually been a blessing in disguise for my own job search in a new country. I highly recommend reading this book!
The most useful guide about job search !
Priceless tips and advice, that could benefit freshly graduated students as well as senior executives, as none of what you could find here is taught at school or during any career path…Don’t expect to find in here how to write a cover letter…This book is about how to find a job in the most effective way, in a modern digitalized – yet broken – job market with (most) employers barely bothering replying to job seekers…not only will it give you all the tools, from application to salary negotiation, but a full rounded method to master the whole job recruitment process and to draw CAREER CHOICES for yourself rather than making DEFAULT CHOICES … Resolutely game-changing, narrated through an entertaining and fairly human story, this book is a MUST READ for any professional, conscious of his/her personal branding, regardless of his/her current employment situation…
VERY INTERESTING BOOK
I decided to order this book, which I received, for different reasons. I am myself in the HR sector and I wanted to see by curiosity that offers Hamza about the different techniques and alternatives in a job search. I also wanted to evaluate my understanding of the English language because the whole book is English. Thus, I find that the book is easy to read, the more you read more you want to read .. it explains the steps to follow in the job search, tools and methods often, poorly known, and to adopt seriously!! I have not finished reading it yet. For all those who find themselves in a professional stalemate, which raises questions or just out of curiosity .. I really advise to buy it because everything is well explained to rebound professionally.

A Golden mine and a fresh perspective on job seeking
I had the pleasure to attend one of Hamza’s workshop back in March 2020 at l’alliance française in Dubaï and what had appeared at the time was the simplicity and efficiency of his method. I have now finished his book and I have to say that it is absolutely great! The story of Lisa makes it very easy and engaging to follow. Again simplicity and efficiency are key. Not only does the book challenges your mindset and encourage you to reconsider your approach to job seeking but it also provides great insights into the way an employer is thinking as well as valuable interview techniques and job searching tool to achieve success. For those having the e-version like myself, the index is a life saver as it serves as a repository for all the techniques shown in the book, a golden mine! Thank you Hamza and I look forward to work with you in the future. Regards, David.

The "must to have" pour tout RH de métier.
